In my exploration of sustainable mountain sports, I started Cross Country Skiing (Skating style) in December last year. One of my goals was to skate the trail of the Engadin Skimarathon somewhere in this winter season. In the past few months I have been training my skills and although I am still far from professional, I thought my skills were good enough to go for it.
The Engadin Skimarathon is Switzerland's Classic in cross-country skiing and takes place every year in March. Due to Covid-19 the official Event will not take place this year, but between March 5th and 13th there is an alternative individual event with time registration. I did not really matter about my time registration so I took my chance with great weather one week before this event. On Tuesday the 2nd of March I took the train from Sargans to St. Moritz at about 6.30 in the morning. Eleven hours later I was back home enjoying the great experience of the day. In this video I have summarized the day and I give an impression of the scenery.
In ordinary times I would love to share these days with others. Tom and my sister were both excited to join, but Tom's shoulder accident and the Covid-19 travel restrictions made it impossible to go together this year. Next year I would do it again or skate another marathon in the beautiful, wide valley of the Engadin. Hopefully with some company and a party at the finish. Let me know if you are excited to join!
